Your Family Plan- Meeting Recap
Your Family Plan by Kendall Parkhurst
written by Caelli Koehler
A dash of excitement, a pinch of laughter, a smidgen of mess
and a nip of chaos is how our day started off in our wonderful MOPS program. Excitement,
laughter, mess and chaos doesn’t that also sound like your home life? Sounds a
lot like my mine. The video shown with Kendall Parkhurst gave us the
opportunity to reflect on our home life. She mesmerized us with bold statements
regarding how to live more proactively and how to reclaim our days, in essence
BE GUTSY.
How many times have we over-booked ourselves and stretched
our minds thin to bend to the likes of culture and pressure? I will be the
first to admit, I try to be a “Pinterest Mom” but I fall short, I mean who
doesn’t some of that stuff is crazy! But that is me trying to conform to the
likes of culture and society, when I know deep down I have different strengths.
We all do. We all have our own strengths and weaknesses to make the “walls of
our home” just that, OUR HOME.
Who dictates this way of living? How has it begun to become
the norm? These are questions that I sometimes wonder, as many of you may. Why
must we allow these pressures from outside influences try to shape our family?
Because culture says to “measure up.” You know what I say to that, no thank
you!
As wives, mothers, sisters, and friends we put forth so much
to making sure everything is perfect, sometimes we lose sight of the
imperfections that make everything worthwhile. We as the matriarch of the
family have the influence to set the pace of how we want our families to live
and thrive. We make the decisions on how to counter culture and societal
pressures. We make the decision to BE GUTSY.
This idea of stepping away from societal pressures sounds
scary and overwhelming. It is so much easier to go with the herd, but then
eventually you get lost and weary. So how do we overcome? Start with a plan,
map out the destination of where we want our families to be and the steps to
get there. Then you take the first step! Easier said than done right?
Kendall Parkhurst isnt’ saying change everything in your
family overnight, start with baby steps and build upon it. Do one thing well,
instead of frizzling out on everything. Operate out of our best self, putting
forth our best effort on one thing at a time. Doing things now will eventually
get your plan accomplished.
So here’s to starting a new day with purpose,
a new day to
shape our families and a new day to BE GUTSY.
